Frequently asked questions
Short answers, with the source where a rule or number is involved.
Using the site
Is the plan free?
Yes. The free plan covers the first 3 days of your trip and needs no account. A Trip Pass unlocks longer plans and extra features.
Do you book anything for me?
No. We suggest and you decide. Links to partners open the partner's own site, where you book and pay.
How do I know the information is current?
Every fact shows its source and the date we last verified it. The verification log lists them all.
Why does my plan say "Unverified preview data"?
The places in the planner are illustrative until each one is checked against an official source. Check opening hours before you go.
Does my plan work offline?
A plan you have opened stays readable on that device without a connection. Open it once while you are online first.
Where are my saved places and purchases kept?
On your own device, in your browser. We do not receive them.
Tax-free refund
How long do I have to complete the procedure?
You must complete the procedure within 90 days from the date of purchase by presenting your passport at a tax-free procedure terminal.
What is the minimum purchase?
Purchases of ¥5,000 or more (excluding tax) per store per day are eligible.
Where do I do it at the airport?
Use the kiosk or electronic terminal in the international departure lobby before baggage check-in, with all the purchased goods with you.
Can I do it online?
At major airports (Narita, Haneda, Kansai, Chubu, Fukuoka, New Chitose, Naha) you may instead complete the procedure online through Visit Japan Web, in designated Wi-Fi areas up to the security checkpoint.
What if I miss the deadline?
Complete every step before boarding procedures. If you miss it, the inspection is not completed and neither the airline nor Customs provides compensation.
Do the goods have to leave Japan?
Goods must be taken out of Japan. Failure to export can lead to collection of the exempted tax plus penalties.
